Why I Recommend Life’s Abundance
One of the main reasons I recommend Life’s Abundance is that it has never been recalled, unlike many other dog foods. Some recalled foods have even caused death in pets. In my opinion, a company only gets one chance when it comes to the safety of their products.
Even some holistic dog foods have been recalled, so don’t assume yours is safe. If you search online, you may discover that your dog food has been recalled at some point. If it has, I would strongly suggest not trusting that company again, regardless of how long ago it happened.
There are even instances where dog food companies were caught lying about the ingredients in their products.
Training Treats and Homemade Options
Remember to order Grain-Free All Life Stages food for your puppy. If you’re also looking for training treats, Life’s Abundance offers great options, or you can make them yourself. I even have a kit available to help you create your own treats. Puppies and dogs seem to love both options!
What’s in Your Dog’s Food?
This page is dedicated to discussing the food you feed your pets. What food are you currently using, and how can you tell which one is best? You might think you’re giving your dog the best, but is there something better? Could your dog be healthier with a different brand? Could your dog have lived longer? Keep reading to learn more.
According to Wendell O. Belfield, DVM, “Do you know what is in meat meal, the major constituent of dry dog food? Urine, fecal matter, hair, pus, meat (from animals afflicted with cancer).” This is why I’m so selective about the dog food I recommend.
Why Life’s Abundance for Your Puppy?
I use Life’s Abundance for all my puppies. When you take your puppy home, they will already be on this food, and I recommend keeping them on it for at least one year. A change in diet at such a young age can upset their digestive system and cause loose stools. Large breeds may handle the switch better, but small breeds need consistency.
How to Order
You must order Life’s Abundance through my website so I can track when you’ve placed an order. The company sends me an email with each purchase. Interestingly, they charge me $10 a month and $120 a year just to sell their food through my site, even though I’m recommending their product. Despite this, I still recommend it because it’s a high-quality dog food.
I also suggest keeping your puppy on Life’s Abundance for life, as I believe it’s one of the reasons my puppies have such beautiful coats.
The Raw Food Option
Although I highly recommend Life’s Abundance, it’s not the best food for your puppy. When your puppy is first introduced to food, I use a raw food diet formulated by a holistic vet. We’ve been using this recipe for many years. If you’re interested, just ask, and I’ll provide you with the recipe.
Transitioning Your Puppy’s Diet
If you’ve already picked out your puppy and placed a deposit, I can skip transitioning them to Life’s Abundance and keep them on the raw food diet. You’ll just need to make sure you have everything ready at home for their homemade diet.
Many of my customers choose this option, as it’s the best for the puppy. Life’s Abundance is a close second, but raw food is ideal.
If your puppy is already on Life’s Abundance and you want to switch to homemade food, I can guide you through the transition process. I’m here to help you do what’s best for your puppy!

Feeding Your Puppy
When you take your puppy home, it’s important to feed him four times a day or simply leave the food out so he can eat whenever he’s hungry. I personally prefer leaving the food out to allow the puppy to eat as much as he wants throughout the day.
Puppies should be allowed to eat as much as they want, regardless of what the feeding guidelines on the food bag say. From my experience, small breed dogs rarely overeat or become overweight.
Convenient Food Delivery
This particular dog food isn’t available in stores, but the company delivers it directly to your door, which is a huge plus! I recommend ordering the 8 lb bag and setting up auto-ship to make things easier. If you’re looking for more savings, you could opt for the 20 lb bag. The price is comparable to other high-end dog foods you’d find in stores.
Delivery times are often quick, arriving within 1-2 days, though holidays and weekends may cause delays. Keep in mind that the company is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Softening the Food for Your Puppy
Until your puppy is about six months old, you’ll need to soften the dry food by soaking it in water. This helps your puppy chew it properly, as they need more teeth to manage the hard food.
Even though your puppy may prefer hard food, it’s important not to give it to him too early. Just like how my grandchildren would choose ice cream for dinner if given the chance, it doesn’t mean it’s the best option for them (though, I admit, they do get it on occasion!).
Risks of Hard Food for Young Puppies
Many puppies have experienced serious injuries like torn esophaguses or choking from eating hard food before they’re ready. Since they don’t have enough teeth to chew properly, it’s best to wait until they can handle it safely.
Part of the issue is that young puppies tend to dive into their food because they’re so hungry from all the growing they’re doing. So, it’s important to keep their food soft to prevent any accidents.
Get the Facts: What’s Really in Pet Food
Images of plump whole chickens, choice cuts of beef, and fresh grains are often used in pet food advertisements, giving the impression that these are the ingredients in your pet’s food. The $16.1 billion U.S. pet food industry wants you to believe that their products offer all the wholesome nutrition your dog or cat needs.
However, this report delves into the reality of what consumers think they are purchasing versus what they are actually getting. While it primarily focuses on the most well-known brands found in supermarkets and discount stores, even some highly respected brands may be guilty of similar misleading practices.
The Hidden Side of the Pet Food Industry
What many pet owners don’t realize is that the pet food industry is essentially an extension of the human food and agriculture sectors. Pet food provides an easy way to turn slaughterhouse offal, grains unfit for human consumption, and similar waste products into profit. These waste products can include intestines, udders, heads, hooves, and sometimes diseased or cancerous animal parts.
Consistency in Dog Food for Your Puppy
There’s no decision to be made about which dog food to feed your puppy—it is crucial to keep him on the same food. A sudden change in diet can cause loose stools, leading to potentially dangerous hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia can be deadly for puppies, which is why I specify in my Puppy Guarantee that your puppy must stay on the same food for at least one year.
If you opt for a homemade diet, I will adjust my guarantee accordingly.
The Major Players in the Pet Food Industry
The pet food market has been significantly shaped by large corporations acquiring smaller companies. With $15 billion at stake annually in the U.S. market and growing international opportunities, it’s no surprise that these companies are eager for a larger share.
- Nestlé bought Purina, creating Nestlé Purina Petcare Company (brands include Fancy Feast, Alpo, Friskies, Dog Chow, Cat Chow, and Beneful).
- Del Monte acquired Heinz, bringing brands like MeowMix, Gravy Train, Kibbles ‘n Bits, and Milk Bone under their umbrella.
- Mars, Inc. (MasterFoods) took over Royal Canin (brands include Pedigree, Cesar, Sheba, and Goodlife Recipe).
- Procter & Gamble (P&G) purchased The Iams Company (Iams, Eukanuba) in 1999 and later introduced these brands into grocery stores, where they became popular.
- Colgate-Palmolive acquired Hills Science Diet (Hills Science Diet, Prescription Diets, Nature’s Best) in 1976.
Private label manufacturers and co-packers also play a significant role in the pet food industry. Major players include Doane Pet Care, Diamond, and Menu Foods, all of which have been involved in recalls that resulted in the sickness or death of many pets.
Multinational Corporations and Pet Food
Many of the major pet food companies in the U.S. are subsidiaries of larger multinational corporations. From a business perspective, pet food aligns well with companies that produce human food products. These corporations benefit from increased purchasing power and a steady supply of ingredients, as pet food divisions can use waste products from human food manufacturing.
The Pet Food Institute, a trade association representing pet food manufacturers, has openly acknowledged that by-products in pet foods create additional income for farmers and processors. The growth of the pet food industry has not only provided pet owners with more food options for their pets but has also opened profitable markets for American farm products and the by-products of the meatpacking and poultry industries.
Conclusion
The pet food industry’s close ties to the human food sector and its use of waste products raise important questions about what’s really in the food we feed our pets. It’s essential to be informed about the ingredients in your pet’s food and consider alternatives that prioritize health and nutrition over convenience and profit.
